Sometimes you can lose your sense of style amid all the chaos of motherhood. This article is here to help you snatch it back. For me, mom style often means balancing practicality with personal flair. Here are some of my best styling tips to help you look and feel your best while managing your busy life.

1. Invest in Basics.

Quality Essentials: Build your wardrobe with high-quality basics like well-fitting jeans, plain t-shirts, and classic sweaters. I love the mom jean, which have a looser fit and make me feel put-together without sacrificing comfort. An oversized tee tucked in at the front looks stylish but still enables me to do the house cleaning!

Versatile Pieces: Choose items that can be mixed and matched easily. Having a large wardrobe is not something I recommend, so with each piece you buy, make sure it can be paired with multiple items in your wardrobe.

2. Layering is Key.

Adaptable Layers: Use cardigans, blazers, and lightweight jackets to layer outfits, making it easy to adjust to changing weather and activities. Layering can transform an outfit from day to night, so having these pieces in your wardrobe is essential.

Scarves and Shawls: can add style and warmth without much effort, so be sure not to forget these items!

3. Comfort is Crucial.

Comfortable Fabrics: Opt for breathable and stretchable fabrics that allow for movement and comfort throughout the day. I love linen and crisp cotton tees, which sit nicely across my shoulders and bust. Denim is comfortable – unless it is too tight! I always opt for oversized denim pieces, which I find to be more slimming, too!

Supportive Footwear: Invest in stylish yet comfortable shoes like sneakers, loafers, and low-heeled boots.

4. Accessorize Smartly.

Functional Bags: Choose stylish yet practical bags that can hold all the essentials for both you and your kids. The more children I have, the less I worry about carting a huge nappy bag around, but having a stylish tote that can at least include a few nappies and wipes is a must!

Minimalist Jewelry: Simple and elegant jewelry can add a touch of sophistication without being cumbersome. At the moment I am loving gold earrings and pendant necklaces. I also like to add a pop of colour via a hair clip. Feminine, yet funky and practical!

5. Embrace Prints and Colors.

Play with Patterns: Incorporate fun prints and patterns to add interest to your outfits. If you’re wearing pants, why not make them a fun colour? If your wearing a skirt, why not make it stylish with a leopard print option? Something as simple as a print can transform an otherwise boring outfit into something that it ultra stylish. Just be sure to balance it out with a plain white tee or denim pant.

Seasonal Colors: Use seasonal colors to keep your wardrobe fresh and on-trend. For fall, this means warm mustards and rusts, or evergreen shades.

6. Opt for Easy-Care Fabrics.

Machine-Washable: Choose clothes that are easy to care for and can withstand frequent washing. As a mom, every turn presents the risk of dirt, from grubby fingers wanting to be picked up to standing at the sink doing dishes. Dirt is unavoidable so we want to ensure our clothes can be easily cleaned!

Wrinkle-Resistant: Look for fabrics that resist wrinkles and keep you looking polished. If we can minimise the amount of ironing we have to do, all the better!

7. Practical Yet Stylish Outerwear.

Weather-Appropriate Coats: Invest in coats and jackets that are both functional and fashionable, like a stylish raincoat or a warm parka. Outerwear can really make an outfit look super trendy, so allow more of a budget for these items!

Layer Underneath: Wear light layers underneath your outerwear for added warmth and flexibility.

8. Effortless Hairstyles.

Quick and Chic: Opt for easy-to-maintain hairstyles like a sleek ponytail, messy bun, or simple braids. At the moment, I am keen on the long bob, which is easy to maintain and looks chic without having to do all that much.

Accessories: Use hair accessories like headbands, clips, or scarves to add a stylish touch. These are especially helpful when it’s the day before wash day and your hair is looking a bit rank.

9. Stay Organized.

Capsule Wardrobe: Consider creating a capsule wardrobe to streamline your choices and make getting dressed quicker and easier. We don’t have time to faff around with clothing decisions, so simplifying this process through a carefully curated minimalist wardrobe is essential.

Plan Ahead: Lay out your outfits the night before to save time in the morning.

10. Confidence is Key.

Wear What You Love: Choose clothes that make you feel confident and comfortable…and wear them! Don’t save them for special occasions. It’s what we wear every day that defines our style, not special occasions. Don’t be afraid to make the effort to look good, even if no one other than your husband and kids see you. Their opinion actually matters the most!

Own Your Style: Don’t be afraid to express your personal style, even when balancing the demands of motherhood.
